I am headed toward one of of the two Unitarian Universalist seminaries in the US, Meadville Lombard. (For much of its history Harvard Divinity School has been associated with the Unitarian church and graduates a significant number of UU ministers).
Meadville has a modified residency program that enables me to earn a Master's of Divinity by spending four January's taking intensive classes. What Meadville does not offer I take at Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa. I am getting the best of two great academic and spiritual communities.
Meadville aims to "educate students in the Unitarian Universalist tradition to embody liberal religious ministry in Unitarian Universalist congregations and wherever else they are called to serve. We do this in order to take into the world our Unitarian Universalist vision of justice, equity, and compassion."

Yay!!!! I am the first to comment. You go girl. I'm looking forward to reading all the updates. I'm thinking of you often and watching with a touch of envy as you take on this journey.
ReplyDeleteCathey, your posting reminded me of two quotes from Maria Montessori. She's speaking of how educators interact with children, but it seems to address the journey you are beginning today.
ReplyDelete"Education should no longer be mostly imparting of knowledge, but must take a new path, seeking the release of human potentialities.'
And:
"It is not enough for the teacher to love the child. She must first love and understand the universe. She must prepare herself, and truly work at it. '
I am awed and uplifted by your commitment to release your own potential, to prepare yourself rigorously to understand the universe of human thought via the liberal religious tradition.
Blessings to you, and to the strong and beautiful family who are supporting you on your journey.
